Prince Harry could reportedly be heading toward a long-awaited reunion with King Charles III later this summer when he returns to the UK for an Invictus Games engagement.
Relations between Harry and the royal family have remained tense since he and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and later spoke publicly about their experiences in interviews and projects including the famous conversation with Oprah Winfrey and Harry’s memoir Spare.
However, royal author Ingrid Seward has suggested that the King may still be open to extending an invitation to Harry, Meghan, and their children—Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet—provided certain boundaries and conditions are respected.
Ingrid Seward believes that Balmoral Castle could provide the most realistic setting for a reunion between King Charles III and Prince Harry’s children.
She explained: “The only place that really I think they could meet if the King is to get to know or at least see his grandchildren, is at Balmoral.”
Seward added that the royal estate offers both privacy and practicality for such a sensitive family gathering, saying: “It’s the only time the King has time and the Sussexes could be accommodated there because there’s lots of cottages on the Estate.”

The vast Balmoral Castle estate has long been regarded as the royal family’s most private retreat, offering the security and discretion that King Charles III and his family rely on away from public life. According to Ingrid Seward, that makes it the ideal location for any possible reunion with Prince Harry and his family.
She explained: “Harry and Meghan don’t have to stay in the castle, although of course they would expect to, but that’s fine.”
Seward added that careful planning could avoid unnecessary tension, saying: “They would make sure, obviously, that William and Kate weren’t there at the same time. So it’s not that difficult, and it can be done fairly under the radar.”
Harry last travelled to Balmoral in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, although Meghan Markle did not accompany him. At the time, he reportedly arrived later than other senior royals after not travelling on the same private jet as Prince William.
Since Prince Harry’s visit to Balmoral Castle in 2022, there have been few visible signs of a significant reconciliation between the Sussexes and the wider royal family, aside from a brief in-person meeting between Harry and King Charles III at Clarence House last summer.
Relations between Harry and Prince William are believed to remain especially strained following years of public accusations, interviews, and revelations.
Royal author Ingrid Seward believes that any potential Balmoral reunion would therefore need to be carefully coordinated behind the scenes to prevent awkward encounters.
“I think the King would pick very carefully who was going to be there at the same time, and it certainly wouldn’t be William and Kate,” she said. “If it were, I’d be absolutely astounded.”
Despite the tensions, Seward believes King Charles III could still be open to welcoming Harry back if the request came directly from his son.
“Charles would get to say, ‘Darling boy, of course come to Balmoral’, and then because he’s the King, he could let his aides deal with everything else,” she explained.
Ingrid Seward suggested that any potential reunion between Prince Harry and the royal family would likely come with strict conditions behind the scenes.
“They’d probably have to make them sign confidentiality agreements and all kinds of stuff – but Charles doesn’t have to do it, he can sit there looking like the good guy,” she said.
According to Seward, King Charles III could leave the logistical and legal details to palace staff, explaining: “He has a private secretary and other staff to deal with all of the details. They’d have them buttoned up as much as you can button them up.”
Security remains one of the biggest unresolved issues for Harry since stepping back from royal duties. The Duke has been involved in ongoing disputes regarding his UK security arrangements and has previously stated that he does not feel it is safe to bring Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Britain from their home in Montecito, California.
However, Seward believes those concerns would be significantly eased if the family stayed on royal property.
“There wouldn’t be all the drama surrounding security either because if Harry and his family are staying in a royal residence they’ll get full security,” she said.
