Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson are said to have put palace officials on alert amid reports that they may be contemplating the sale of royal valuables.
The former Duke and Duchess of York, who were stripped of their royal titles last year following a series of scandals, are reportedly weighing the option of selling high-value items connected to Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family.
This is thought to be linked to their impending departure from Royal Lodge, with the divorced couple expected to vacate the 30-room Windsor residence later this year. Items feared to be at risk of auction reportedly include personal correspondence and pieces of jewellery.
Palace insiders believe legal advisers are closely overseeing the situation and will assess whether certain possessions at Royal Lodge are Crown property or belong privately to Andrew and Sarah.

According to The News, a source speaking to Radar Online said that items connected to the late Queen Elizabeth II held by the pair carry both historical and emotional weight.
The source added: “The appearance of even a single item would trigger immediate and widespread fallout. But Andrew and Sarah seem intent on turning the Lodge into some sort of pawn shop source by collecting together goods they think they can auction off to the highest bidder.”
“If they go ahead with this, their departure from royal life may end in the most volatile way yet.”
Another insider has warned that the most alarming outcome would be the public sale of private correspondence, recordings, or jewellery.
They said: “Senior royals always expected the break with Andrew to be difficult, but not on this scale. The prospect of private letters, recordings and jewels becoming public is viewed as a worst-case scenario.”
The remarks follow growing criticism over how long Andrew is taking to move out of Royal Lodge.
A source told The Mail on Sunday: “A lorry has been and gone under the cover of darkness. Andrew is going to a shoebox-sized house, compared to Royal Lodge, so a lot of the things that were taken are going into a storage unit.
The clutter at Royal Lodge is turning what should be a straightforward move into a months-long, room-by-room excavation.
It’s all going to be painfully slow, especially with refurbishment work to complete at the other end. These aren’t the kind of belongings you can sweep into a skip. Even if Andrew wanted to move tomorrow, he couldn’t.”
